Festival Day 1
Talk 1: Cultural Currency: Tapping Into The Zeitgeist- L’Oréal, Amazon, and NBCU
My Notes…
NBCU doing a collab between Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg was a way to get views and recognition.
Prime Day is a recurring trend that has become, “basically”, a national holiday.
It’s important to not just jump on the bandwagon of a trend to just forget about it later. You should stick with it and be genuine about it.
Talk 2: Story Telling- Jamie Lee Curtis
My Notes…
Jamie likes to be highly involved with the marketing and advertising team of whatever project she is working on.
She loves to sell things. Her ability to sell products for the past 25 years started when she did a Hertz ad. Jamie says, “How did they know I could sell?”
“Authenticity is key. I’m 65, near death. It’s my whole brand.”- Jamie Lee Curtis
Talk 3: Beyond the Generational Divide: The New Rules for Consumer Connection- Amazon, DNA, and Nothin But The Music Limited
My Notes…
There was a 36% increase in generational stories.
25% of consumers identify with a different generation.
59% of people think brands try too hard for certain age groups.
Focus on interest-based marketing throughout communities, behaviors, and values.
Talk 4: The Tech Marketers Playbook For Building a Beloved Social First Brand- Duolingo
My Notes…
Duolingo let go of the traditional ways of thinking and instead focus on…
Creative Freedom
Risk-Taking
Agility- be funny and weird
30% of their budget is on experimentation, where they make sure to start with the idea and not the budget.
They took part in the dark humor trend and related it back to learning a language.
BE UNHINGED.
Talk 5: Unshittifying CX: Reconnecting Funnels and Feelings- Sephora and R/GA
My Notes…
CX definition: Any and all brand experiences.
CX quality sits at an all-time low, where negative feedback has grown faster than positive feedback.
CX technology has grown rapidly as it’s the new key to growing a business.
